1. Introduction

This Privacy Policy describes how Camex collects, uses, shares and protects personal information when people visit the Camex website or use its related services (collectively, the “Services”). It forms part of the Terms of Service.

Users should read this policy before accessing the Services. Accessing or using the Services constitutes agreement to this policy. Anyone who does not agree should not use the Services.

The information Camex collects depends on how a person uses the website, whether they create an account and which features they use.

2. Information Camex collects

Camex collects personal and non-personal information through website visits, account registration and use of the Services. The categories below explain what may be collected and how.

2.1. Registration and account information

During registration, users are asked to provide a gender, name or alias, and date of birth. This information supports connections and friends features. Users may also add photos, videos, a personal description and interests. These additional profile details are optional.

When a user registers or signs in through Google, Camex may receive information made available through that account. For example, Camex may store a Google ID and its corresponding token to enable automatic sign-in. With the user's express consent, Camex may also receive a name, email address, profile picture and birthday. This information supports account management and synchronisation across devices.

Where permitted by law and the user's choices, Camex uses contact information to communicate new offerings or service changes. Contact information may also help others find an account, including through third-party services, if the user's settings allow it. Users can manage available email and device notification settings or follow the unsubscribe instructions in marketing messages.

Camex stores and processes text messages and related information. This includes scanning for malicious content, abuse and prohibited images, and reviewing reported issues. Separately from message content, Camex uses information about communication participants and timing to understand usage and protect the safety and integrity of the Services.

2.2. Location information

Location information may include precise GPS coordinates, approximate location derived from Wi-Fi or an IP address, and places where the Services are used. Depending on how the Services are used, location information may be disclosed to Camex, other users or both.

Camex may collect, use and store current and previous location information to establish and maintain accounts securely, protect the Services and personalise connections.

2.3. Log data

Camex receives log data when people view content, sign in, interact with email notifications, use an account with a third-party service, follow links or otherwise use the Services. This may include:

  • IP address, browser type and configuration, operating system and mobile carrier.
  • Device and application identifiers, location and cookie information.
  • Referring pages, pages visited and search terms, including terms not submitted as queries.
  • Communication participants, dates, duration and connection metadata, such as time or location.

Log data does not include communication content unless required for safety or security reasons.

Camex uses log data to maintain reliable Services, secure accounts, identify popular features, enable new and repeat connections, improve the Services and evaluate marketing. Log data is retained for no more than 30 days.

2.4. Information from third parties and affiliates

Camex may receive information from content safety and quality partners, affiliates and services linked to a user's account. This information is used to operate the Services. Users can revoke permissions for supported integrations through available account settings. Permissions for other integrations can be managed through the connected service.

Purchases or payments made through the Services or an intermediary may involve providing a card number, expiry date, CVV and billing address. Camex may also receive transaction details, including the time of payment.

2.5. Account associations and personalisation

When a user signs in, Camex associates the browser or device with the account for authentication, security and personalisation. Subject to the user's settings, Camex may link an account or signed-out browser to other browsers or devices and associate information, such as an email address, with an account.

These associations may be used to infer identity information, including by comparing hashes of email addresses with common components, subject to the user's settings. Camex uses this information to operate and personalise the Services. Information from a Google account may also help determine whether a user meets the age requirements.

2.6. Information collected during use

  • Browser and device details. Camex may collect device models, browser identifiers, IP addresses, device capabilities and page-view statistics.
  • Activity and media access. Camex may collect information about matches, match counts and duration, text messaging, shared music and usage by location. Camex accesses and copies photos or media selected for a profile or shared through the Services. Camera and microphone access, including video and audio capture, supports calls and media features. Video and images may also be captured for safety checks and to help prevent access by people under 18.
  • Shared content. Profiles, interests, messages, photos, screenshots, videos, music and other communications shared through the Services may be stored on Camex servers. Once content is shared, its sender may lose control over how recipients use or distribute it, including whether it becomes public. Camex may be unable to remove every copy or prevent recipients from accessing it. Section 7 provides further details.
  • User Content. Camex may collect and store photos, screenshots, comments, interests and other materials created or posted through the Services (“User Content”).
  • Transactions. Payment information submitted for a purchase is transmitted securely to the third-party provider or merchant handling the payment. Camex may also process or store payment information and retain purchase records, including the merchant, date, time, amount and purchase history.
  • Error reports. Reports may contain device types and versions, identifiers, error times, and details about the feature in use and its state. Reports generally contain no personal information, or contain it only incidentally. Camex uses these reports solely to investigate problems and improve stability.

2.7. Website visits

Cookies, pixel tags, web beacons and similar technologies may collect browsing history, visit frequency and duration, IP addresses, general location, device identifiers, operating system and browser type and version, crash information, system activity and previously visited websites.

These technologies support secure sign-in, analytics and service development. Users can disable tracking technologies through available controls, although doing so may affect some features. Section 15 explains the use of cookies and related controls.

2.8. Age requirements

The Services are intended only for people aged 18 or older. Camex does not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18 and will delete such information from its records if it learns that it was collected inadvertently. People under 18 must not use the Services.

2.9. Biometric information

With consent, or where otherwise permitted by law, Camex may collect facial images or voice recordings from which identifiers such as faceprints, minutiae templates or voiceprints can be extracted. Camex or third-party verification services may use this information for identity and age verification. Biometric information may be shared with Camex's cloud provider, Amazon Web Services.

3. User profiles

Users can access and update profile details, including names, photos, videos, interests, biographies, languages and birthdays. Profiles should contain only information the user wishes to share. A profile is available to connected users and may be discoverable by others, including through contact listings that indicate proximity.

Users can block a person in their contact list to prevent that person from discovering their profile. For Google sign-in, Camex may prefill profile details from the Google account, including name, photo, birthday, email address and gender. Users can change or delete profile information through available settings or the process described in Section 14.

4. How Camex uses personal information

Camex follows the principle of data minimisation and uses information for the purposes described in this policy, in connection with the Services and related business activities.

4.1. Providing the Services

Personal information supports user connections, profile sharing, participant name displays, video and audio calls, and the exchange of images and videos. It also supports features offered from time to time, including paid services, games and music sharing during calls, as described in the Terms of Service.

Camex also uses information to respond to enquiries, connect with payment processors, analyse and improve connection relevance, provide offers and communicate service updates.

4.2. Managing accounts and improving the Services

Camex uses information to create and update accounts and profiles, send administrative notices and facilitate connections based on location or interests. Surveys, research, statistics, usage patterns, transaction history and online interactions help Camex develop, test, troubleshoot and improve the Services.

Other uses include processing transactions through third parties, communicating policies and terms, responding to support requests, sending permitted marketing and loyalty programme notifications, and sharing information with partners where necessary to meet contractual obligations.

4.3. Safety, integrity and security

Camex uses information for audits, compliance, security and risk management. This includes verifying accounts and activity, detecting harmful or illegal behaviour and protecting the integrity of the Services. Automated detection and human review may be used to investigate suspicious activity, user reports and violations of the content and behaviour rules or this policy.

4.4. Business and legal purposes

Camex uses information to manage records, establish or defend legal rights, meet regulatory and reporting requirements, moderate content and fulfil contractual commitments to users and third parties. Information may also be used in connection with a merger, acquisition, asset sale or other business transaction involving Camex.

4.5. Information across the Services

Camex may connect activity information across its Services to provide a more personalised and consistent experience.

5. Legal bases for processing

Depending on the purpose and applicable law, Camex processes personal information on one or more of the following bases:

  • Contract: processing is necessary to fulfil the agreement with a user under the Terms of Service.
  • Legitimate interests: processing supports interests such as fraud prevention, network security or internal administration, provided those interests are not overridden by the individual's interests or fundamental rights and freedoms.
  • Consent: the individual has agreed to processing for a specified purpose.
  • Legal obligations: processing is necessary to comply with a legal requirement.
  • Public or vital interests: processing is necessary in the public interest or to protect the vital interests of the individual or another person.

6. Sharing information with third parties

Camex may share information and content with the following parties as needed for the purposes described in this policy:

  • Other users: people who can view a public profile may see details such as a Camex ID, name, gender, region, photos, birthday, interests or music playlists, as well as information the user or others make available about that person.
  • Group companies: Camex's parent company, subsidiaries, affiliates and branch offices that support or integrate the Services.
  • Service providers: agents, contractors and providers supporting infrastructure, IT systems, customer service, data management, analytics, data cleansing, surveys, music sharing and payment processing.
  • Marketing providers: marketing and mailing services, subject to consent where required.
  • Operational and financial partners: telecommunications operators, collection and credit reference agencies, security and identity verification providers, screening services, banks and other financial institutions.
  • Professional advisers: lawyers, auditors and other advisers.
  • Public authorities: regulators, law enforcement authorities, courts and government agencies.
  • Business transferees: actual or proposed assignees or purchasers of part of Camex's business or operations.

7. Content users choose to share

Information voluntarily disclosed or posted through the Services may become public. Other people may view, save or share User Content, and further distribution may be impossible to prevent once it is public.

Removing content does not necessarily remove copies held in caches, archives, search results or files saved by other users or third parties. Recipients can view and use personal information shared in messages, photos, videos or live conversations. Camex is not responsible for another person's use or misuse of information a user chooses to share.

8. Direct marketing

Camex requests consent before sending direct marketing communications. For users who opt in, Camex may use personal information to send news, event information, service updates, coin offers, contests and promotions related to the Services. Camex may analyse preferences, online activity and transaction history to tailor offers and communications on the website, social media or by email.

Users can opt out at any time by following unsubscribe instructions, adjusting available notification settings or contacting [email protected].

9. Data access and deletion

Users control the information they choose to share, except where information is identified as necessary for a feature. Available website, browser and device settings provide additional controls.

Users may request deletion of their account and personal information at any time. Camex makes commercially reasonable efforts to remove information from its servers, subject to legal and other applicable recordkeeping requirements. Deletion may prevent Camex from continuing to provide the Services to that user.

Account or data deletion can be requested through the Delete Account option in account settings, where available, or by emailing [email protected].

10. Third-party links

Third-party websites and services, including those linked from Camex, may collect information independently. Camex does not control their privacy practices, and this policy does not cover information exchanged with them. Users should review the privacy policies of those providers.

11. Security and international transfers

Camex uses technical and physical measures to help protect information against loss, unauthorised disclosure, use or modification. These measures include password protection, access logs, system monitoring and stress testing. Access is limited to employees, contractors, agents, partners and providers who need the information to operate, develop, maintain or support the Services, or to carry out the purposes described in this policy.

No internet service can guarantee complete security. Camex cannot guarantee that information under its control will never be lost, misused or altered.

Information may be stored or processed in countries where Camex or its providers maintain facilities, including outside a user's country of residence. Use of the Services constitutes consent to the international transfers described in this policy. Camex may share infrastructure and process information across its Services as permitted by applicable law and the relevant terms and policies.

Camex implements safeguards required by applicable law. For transfers from the European Economic Area or the United Kingdom to countries without an applicable adequacy decision, Camex relies on the EU Standard Contractual Clauses or relevant UK-approved clauses, such as the UK Addendum to the EU clauses. Camex also conducts transfer impact assessments to evaluate risks to individuals' rights and protections.

Camex may pseudonymise or aggregate information to analyse trends, improve and develop services, detect fraud, secure accounts and provide usage statistics to service providers. Further information about international transfers and safeguards is available at [email protected].

12. Data retention

Camex retains personal information only for as long as needed for the purposes described in this policy, unless the law requires a longer period. Information that is no longer needed is irreversibly anonymised or securely deleted. The retention period for log data is set out in Section 2.3.

13. Data protection rights

Subject to applicable law and its conditions, individuals have the following rights:

  • Access: ask whether Camex processes their personal information and request a copy.
  • Withdrawal of consent: withdraw consent to processing that relies on consent.
  • Correction: request correction of inaccurate personal information.
  • Erasure: request deletion in certain circumstances. This right may be limited where information is needed to meet legal obligations or establish, exercise or defend legal claims.
  • Restriction: request limits on processing in certain circumstances.
  • Portability: where processing is automated and based on consent, receive information they provided in a structured, commonly used, machine-readable format and transmit it to another controller without hindrance.
  • Objection: object to processing on grounds relating to their situation. Camex will stop the relevant processing unless it demonstrates compelling legitimate grounds that override the individual's interests, rights and freedoms, or the processing is needed for legal claims.
  • Complaint: raise concerns about the handling of personal information with Camex's data protection contact at [email protected].

14. Exercising privacy rights

Users can update or delete information through available account controls. Requests for access, correction, deletion or the exercise of other privacy rights can also be sent to [email protected].

15. Cookies and similar technologies

Cookies are small text files stored in a browser or on a device when someone visits a website. Camex uses cookies, web beacons, pixel tags and similar technologies on its website and in emails and advertisements.

These technologies help verify users, remember preferences, deliver relevant content and advertisements, monitor and improve website performance, measure advertising campaigns and analyse traffic on the Camex website and the sites of partners or members.

Users can change browser settings to accept, remove or block cookies. Blocking cookies may affect sign-in, certain Services and personalised features.

16. Changes to this policy

Camex may update this policy and publish the revised version on the Privacy Policy page. Changes may be communicated electronically or through website notices.

For material changes, Camex will publish the revised policy, provide a website notice or pop-up, or notify users as required by law. Users should review this policy periodically. Continued use of the Services after an update is published or notified constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.

17. Contact information

Questions about this policy, customer service enquiries, account deletion requests and other privacy requests can be sent to Camex at [email protected].
